Four easy steps that take the stress out of your health insurance claim
We understand that claiming on your health insurance can be a little stressful. We take our role in supporting our clients through health claims really seriously, so we’ve created a quick list to help you take the stress out of your claim.
1. Ask your adviser to get involved early on in the piece.
As soon as you know you may need to seek medical assistance or advice outside of the scope of your GP, give your Greentree adviser a call. If it is likely that you will be making a claim, they can check your policy documentation to ensure the situation is a claimable event. They will also be able to give you some initial advice about how to get started that can save you precious time and energy during the information gathering phase. Next they will put you in touch with our claims expert to get the ball rolling.
2. Get Pre-approval.
With all health insurance claims we recommend you get prior approval well in advance of your treatment if possible. Our claims expert will send you all the forms you need to complete and will give you detailed instructions about how to go about getting all the required information in order for the claim to be assessed. Once you have prior approval you can concentrate on your procedure and focus on your recovery. To ensure your pre-approval request is processed smoothly you need to arrange the following:
- Completed claim form (including the section completed by your GP).
- Estimate of costs from your specialist.
- Copy of the referral letter from your GP to the specialist.
- Any other relevant reports or notes.
3. Always give full and accurate information on the forms.
This may seem obvious, but it is important that you give full and accurate information about your health condition on your claim form. This will ensure the claims assessor has all the information they need to make a swift call on your claim.
4. Make Copies of all documentation including receipts, quotes and reports.
It’s always a good idea to make copies of your claim form as well as receipts, quotes and reports you may receive along the way. This will ensure you are not back tracking and chasing information that has already passed through your hands or been made available to you. Keep them all together for easy access during the claims process. This is especially important if you will have recurring claims for ongoing expenses. It’s a good idea to flick copies to your Greentree claim team, so that we are on the same page.
